An established figure in anesthesia services with over 10 years of professional expertise, Dr. Jewel Montgomery Smay is the president and chief executive officer of Montgomery Anesthesia Service, P.C., in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In her roles since 2013, she has focused on pediatric and clinical anesthesiology, with keen attention paid to making an instrumental difference in the world.
Previously, Dr. Smay was a medical director with NorthStar Anesthesia in Muskogee, Oklahoma, from 2020 to 2023 and a regional medical director at the facility, overseeing Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri, from 2022 to 2023. Impressively, she was honored with the One Team Award for her exceptional work. Earlier in her career, Dr. Smay was a pediatric anesthesiologist at the Hillcrest Healthcare System in Tulsa from 2019 to 2020 and at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City from 2017 to 2019. From 2014 to 2017, she also worked at the St. John Health System in Tulsa, having started her career in 2012 as an assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
To prepare for her career, Dr. Smay pursued higher education at Duke University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology in 1995. Following this achievement, she earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 2007. Continuing her work at the acclaimed university, Dr. Smay completed a residency in anesthesiology and a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology between 2007 and 2012. She recently obtained a Master of Business Administration in health sector management from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University in 2023 and completed the Black Corporate Board Readiness program at the Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business in 2024.
Notably, Dr. Smay is board-certified in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology and maintains an active membership with the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Board of Anesthesiologists and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesiology. Since January 2025, she has served on the board of advisors of and invested in the Diabetes Reversal Group, as well as the board of advisors of Transdermal Solutions LLC since 2021. Looking ahead, Dr. Smay intends to enter an operating leadership or C-suite level role in the health care industry.
