
Michael J. Earp has accrued nearly half a century of professional liability insurance experience in the construction insurance arena, culminating in his present role as a managing director of the Construction & Infrastructure Division at Aon. In this role, he is notable for advising business owners, designers and contractors on insurance procurement to mitigate professional risks associated with large construction projects. As such, he also maintains responsibility for brokering large clients, preparing strategy papers and serving as the organization’s technical resource. Mr. Earp oversees publications on technical matters and marketing materials. Rejoining the company in London during 2011, he then transferred to Aon in the USA in 2016 as the practice leader for architects and engineers before moving into his current role.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Earp previously worked for companies now within the Aon family, notably including Nicholson Leslie International, E&O Professionals, Bain Dawes/EPIC (Engineers and Contractors Professional Indemnity Consultants) and Clarkson Puckle. Beyond Aon, he served with other leading insurance organizations, demonstrating his proficiency in design, consulting and management with roles at Willis FINEX Global Limited, WR Berkley Insurance, Chartwell Underwriting, Alfred Blackmore Professional Indemnity, Stewart Wrightson Construction Insurance and Sedgwick Forbes Bland Payne, where he commenced his career as an insurance clerk in 1977.
Mr. Earp is noteworthy as a construction risk insurance specialist, having been certified by the International Risk Management Institute in 2019. Previously attending Norwich City College in the mid-1970s, he holds an international sailing license, credentials through NauticED and an honorary diploma for insurance and guarantees in construction contracts from Stowarzyszenie Inźynierów Doradców I Rzeczoznawców (SIDiR). Moreover, Mr. Earp has authored numerous industry-related publications, such as “Changes Affecting Middle East Projects,” “Professional Indemnity Insurance for Construction Consultants” and “Professional Indemnity – Protection or an Exercise in Public Relations,” the lattermost article being featured in the Journal of Building Appraisal. Mr. Earp is the principal of a consultancy entity, Professional Risk Advice & Education Limited, a dormant organization.
