Myrna L. Fischman, PhD, is a decorated business executive and educator who has amassed 65 years in the field. Commencing her tenure at LIU Brooklyn in 1970, she has served as a professor of accounting, taxation and law, director of the School of Professional Accountancy, director of the Center for Accounting and Tax Education, and chairman of the Department of Accounting. At the inception of her career in 1954, she was the chief accountant investigator of the Queens District Attorney’s Office until 1970, simultaneously serving as a teacher of accounting and vice advisor at Central Commercial High School from 1960 to 1966 and instructor of accounting at the Borough of Manhattan Community College from 1963 to 1966. Ascending the ranks of success, she soon escalated positions to chief accountant investigator of the Rackets Department of the Queens District Attorney’s Office from 1969 to 1970, having subsequently been the community fellowship coordinator the following year.

Since 1960, Dr. Fischman has also been a noted self-employed accountant in New York. Certified in public accountancy since 1964, she has impressively developed multiple BS and MS accounting, business and taxation programs at such institutions as the Borough of Manhattan Community College, LIU Brooklyn, and the former Southampton College. Likewise, she was cited in The CPA Journal, which is published through the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and developed articulation agreements with Kingsborough Community College and New York City College of Technology. A past editor of the Eastern Business Educators Journal, she has continued to serve the Borough of Manhattan Community College on its business education advisory council and accounting department advisory board since 1997.

Loving the ambiance of the business world from a young age, Dr. Fischman most enjoys witnessing the success of her former students as they progress into their professions. To remain abreast of developments in the field, she maintains affiliation with the public relations committee of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and serves as director of the Brooklyn chapter of the LIU Tax & Accounting Institute. Furthermore, she has been the director of the New York chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants since 1983, having formerly served in increasingly responsible
executive roles for such prominent organizations as the Association of Government Accountants, the American Accounting Association and the Doctorate Association of New York Educators, among many others.

Dr. Fischman has accrued myriad accolades and honors throughout her career, including features in several Who’s Who publications. Citing receiving tenure at LIU Brooklyn to be a crowning moment of her career, she intends to continue teaching in the foreseeable future.
