Carol McCarthy Duhme has devoted her life to improving her society. She has served the church and various foundations in numerous capacities for more than 50 years, starting in 1959 as a moderator for the St. Louis Association Congregational Church. She continued to serve the church until 1995, holding several positions such as member of the church council, chairman of the board for Christian education, and serving on the board of deacons. Prior to dedicating her time to faith-based organizations, Ms. Duhme worked as an elementary teacher during the majority of the Second World War. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College in 1939 and an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Eden Theological Seminary in 2002.
An esteemed humanitarian, Ms. Duhme formerly served on the board of directors for music schools in the St. Louis community, Church Women United, John Burroughs School, St. Louis Bicentennial Women’s Committee, North Side Team Ministry, the Chautauqua Institution, and the YWCA in St. Louis. Devoting herself to additional causes in the community, she is currently a member of the national council of the School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, as well as a trustee of the Joseph H. and Florence A. Roblee Foundation.
For her accomplishments, Ms. Duhme was recognized with the Dean’s Medal from the Washington University School of Social Work, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis, and the Humanitarian Award from Planned Parenthood, just to name a few. In addition, she has been listed in several Marquis Who’s Who publications such as Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
