Serving Biola University for more than 35 years, Patricia L. Pike, Ph.D., started her tenure with the university as an assistant professor in 1983, holding the role until becoming an associate professor in 1992. Two years later, she became the dean of the Rosemead School of Psychology, holding each role until 2008. From 2008 to 2013, she served as vice provost of undergraduate education, having also acted as the interim provost for one year. Since 2013, she has been an associate provost of academic administration, as well as a professor in the Rosemead School of Psychology since 2008. Prior to these positions, she served Mountain View College as an instructor, the International Linguistics Center as faculty, and the University of Hawaii as a lecturer. During her tenure, she also served as a staff psychologist at Child Guidance Centers Inc. in Santa Ana, CA, and Biola Counseling Center in La Mirada, CA.
A licensed psychologist in the state of California, Dr. Pike has been a frequent speaker on parenting throughout her career. Inspired by her parents to enter her profession, as well as various college professors, she sought to make a difference in the lives of children and determined that the best way to impact the next generation was to educate their parents and teachers. Realizing that the best time to work with these individuals was in college, as they were making lifealtering decisions during that stage of their lives, she desired to teach psychology to college students. Among the highlights of her career, Dr. Pike thoroughly enjoys being in charge of administration and often catches issues prior to them becoming apparent to anyone else. In addition, she feels that teaching developmental psychology has been most rewarding because of the engagement of her students.
Married with one son, Dr. Pike is a member of the American Psychological Association and Phi Kappa Phi. She enjoys swimming, walking, spinning, cooking, and reading in her spare time. Looking toward the future, she intends to keep her options open and take on any opportunity that arises.
