With more than 50 years of experience, Dr. Paul J. Davis has become an accomplished physician, educator and researcher. Before embarking on his career, he graduated magna cum laude from Westminster College (MO), receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. He attended medical school at Harvard University and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree, cum laude. He was subsequently an intern and resident in internal medicine at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center (now NYC Health & Hospital/Jacobi).

He continued his clinical training and began his research training at the National Institute on Aging of the NIH, where he was a clinical associate and then senior staff associate. He was then appointed head of the endocrinology division in the department of medicine at Johns Hopkins-affiliated Baltimore City Hospitals from 1970 to 1975. He moved to the University at Buffalo School of Medicine as professor of medicine and head
of the endocrinology division from 1975 to 1990. From 1980 to 1990, he also served as chief of medical service of the VA Medical Center in Buffalo. From 1990 to 1999, he served as chairman of the department of medicine and professor of medicine at Albany Medical College and Albany Medical Center Hospital. He was senior associate dean for education at Albany Medical College from 1999 to 2012. He remains professor of medicine at Albany Medical College to the present time. He has co-founded a pharmaceutical company devoted to anticancer drug development and elucidating the molecular basis of the actions of thyroid hormone on cancer cells.

He has served national and international organizations in various capacities. Examples of such capacities are board of directors of the American Board of Internal Medicine, president and board of directors of the American Thyroid Association, governor of upstate region of the New York chapter of the American College of Physicians, external review panel of the Chernobyl Tissue Bank of the European Union, board of scientific counselors of the National Institute on Aging (NIH), merit review board for endocrinology of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and U.S. faculty co-head of endocrinology and diabetes of the Faculty of 1000.

He has served on the editorial boards of Current Opinion in Endocrinology, Obesity & Diabetes, Endocrine Research, Hormones and Cancer and Comprehensive Physiology. He has co-authored 300 scientific publications.
