Always fascinated by computers and information technology, Frank Harrison Merrill is a
decorated serviceman and an accomplished software developer. With a Bachelor of Science in metallurgical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, Mr. Merrill joined the U.S. Army in 1977 and rose in the ranks to First Lieutenant. From 1979 to 1981, he was a metallurgical engineer at Inspiration Copper Co. in Miami, AZ, and Cominco Am., Inc., in Bixby, MO. While at Inspiration Copper, he was able to increase the throughput of their grinding circuit from 80 to 85 percent to more than 100 percent of rated capacity within three months. Then, from 1981 to 1983, he was a programmer and analyst at M.L. Foss, Inc., and Titsch & Associates.
Beginning in 1985, Mr. Merrill went on to obtain a Master of Computer Information Systems from the University of Denver while also serving as the owner and system consultant for Dynamic Solutions. He remained with Dynamic Solutions for nearly 20 years until 2004 when he became the director of software development at Dry Creek Associates LLC. During this time, he also became a senior development programmer at the Trust Company of America. Today, Mr. Merrill holds the title of developer II at HealthLink.
Outside of his practical work in the field, Mr. Merrill offered consulting services throughout his career. In addition, he has taught as an instructor of continuing education for the Users Group in Denver, CO, and as an instructor of computer information systems at the University of Denver. He was also briefly a part of the graduate computer information system faculty at the Colorado campus of the University of Phoenix.
Mr. Merrill has contributed to his field as a writer as well. In 1981, he wrote the article “Program Calculates Hydro Cyclone Efficacy” in the Chemical Engineering Journal. In 1992, he wrote the article “Automating the Information and Referral Function at a Regional Senior Citizens Center” in the Journal of System Management. In 1995, he wrote the article “Security on the Pick System” in International Spectrum Magazine. Mr. Merrill has also been active with the Boy Scouts of America in Denver, CO, and Globe, AZ. In his spare time, Mr. Merrill enjoys model railroading, model rocketry, hiking, camping and mountain climbing.
