Attributing his success to hard work and good fortune, James D. McChesney specializes in natural products chemistry and drugs from natural sources. Dedicated to his field, he received a Bachelor of Science in chemical technology from Iowa State University of Science and Technology in 1961. He went on to obtain a Master of Arts in botany from Indiana University in 1964, and finally, a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry in 1965. With a lifelong interest in nature, Dr. McChesney began his career at the University of Kansas, where he remained from 1965 to 1978. He went on to become the director of the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Mississippi from 1986 to 1995. From 1996 to 2003 he became vice president of development at Napro Biotherapeutics in Boulder, Colorado. After this, he served as chief scientific officer at Tapestry Pharmaceuticals and then at ChromaDex Inc. During this time he also founded Ironstone Separations Inc. and served as principal from 2009 to 2017.
Today, Dr. McChesney holds various positions; he is the founder and managing director of Arbor Therapeutics, LLC, as well as founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Cloaked Therapeutics, LLC. As an accomplished professional, Dr. McChesney was credited with creating and implementing the National Center for Natural Products Research on the University of Mississippi campus. He also holds 45 patents in the field and he designed an anti-cancer and an anti-malarial agent, which are now used in clinical and preclinical developments, respectively. In his spare time outside of work, Dr.
McChesney enjoys farming.
