Possessing nearly three decades of professional experience, Marie Hunter is well-regarded as an expert in 3D digital twin platforms, computer-aided design and virtual reality. Founding Avixi Inc. in 2014, she currently serves the company as its president, demonstrating her expertise in building information modeling (BIM) and operational facility management.
Notably, Avixi Inc. is a 3D technology for construction company whose quality control projects have totaled five million square feet and three million square feet of virtual realities for clients. Ms. Hunter’s pioneering approach to enhancing the pre-construction process allows owners to digitally explore buildings to review designs before projects begin. She also leverages construction data to enhance 3D content for facility maintenance and operations.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Hunter served as a BIM project manager at XL Construction Corporation between 2011 and 2014, where she integrated digital models with physical buildings to enhance project efficiency. Previously, she was a project engineer and senior estimator at WEBCOR between 2000 and 2008, where she estimated project costs on large self-performed concrete structures. Likewise, she thrived as a field engineer at Largo Concrete Inc. from 1999 to 2000. Ms. Hunter commenced her career in 1997 as a staff engineer at InSituTech, remaining there for two years.
Impressively, Ms. Hunter holds a Technical Disclosure Commons patent for BIM for operational facility management and has been a certified Engineer in Training through the Board of Professional Engineers and Surveyors since 1998. To prepare for her career, she earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Ottawa in Canada in 1996.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Hunter endeavors to integrate artificial intelligence with her patented process to improve the capabilities of the building industry. In this regard, she aims to increase equitable access to all project stakeholders through this advanced technology, effectively bridging the gap for individuals with limited access to 3D models. Outside of her professional duties, Ms. Hunter enjoys horse trail riding and visiting hot springs, having been a co-founder of the Gilroy Hot Springs Conservancy and a supporter of the Redwings Horse Sanctuary.
