With more than 40 years of professional experience in the field of academia, Donald Robert McCaffree is a Regents’ Professor of Medicine in the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine, he has been affiliated with the University of Oklahoma since 1977, first serving as an assistant professor of medicine.
Dr. McCaffree has served as Chief of Staff at Oklahoma Memorial Hospital from 1985-1990, and at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center from 1991-2009. He has been president of the American College of Chest Physicians, the Oklahoma State Medical Association and the Oklahoma County Medical Society. He has been involved in efforts to eradicate tobacco use, both at the national and the state level. He was named the first chair of the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust Board of Directors when the Oklahoma voters placed the tobacco settlement dollars in a constitutionally-protected trust. He is now associate director for policy for the Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center, part of the Stephenson Cancer Center at the University of Oklahoma.
He has been a member of Leadership Oklahoma City and Leadership Oklahoma. In addition to serving on numerous other boards, he has chaired the Hospice of Oklahoma County and the Hospice Foundation of Oklahoma, and is the current vicechair of the Health Alliance for the Uninsured. He was a listee in the 23rd edition of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
