A renowned music educator and performer with three decades of experience, Katheryn Rad has poured her passion into each one of her artistic endeavors. Since 2014, she has served as the executive director of Harmony Project Tulsa, a music-based, after-school program that promotes the growth and development of pre-K to sixth-grade students through the study, practice and performance of music. Additionally, Ms. Rad is an education advisory member of the Oklahoma Arts Council, a fine arts advisory board member of Tulsa Public Schools, and a board member of the Tulsa Public Schools’ Fine Arts Task Force. Since 2007, she has directed the Tulsa Symphony’s Education Community. Ms. Rad hones her craft as a cellist in the Tulsa Rock Ensemble, as well as an adjunct cello instructor at Tulsa Community College’s Performing Arts Center for Education.

Ms. Rad became involved in her profession because her mother, who was a soprano, made sure that she started to study music at a young age. Ms. Rad first played the piano when she was 6 years old. At the age of 8, she was given the opportunity to pick another instrument to play; she chose the cello. She completed coursework in auxiliary music study at the University of Birmingham and at Keele University. She ultimately earned a Bachelor of Music in 1985 and a Master of Music in 1988, acquiring both degrees from The University of Tulsa. Ms. Rad became a certified teacher in the state of Oklahoma in 1988 and certified in the Mark O’Connor fiddle method in New York in 2009.

Dedicated to both her community and her profession, Ms. Rad actively contributes to the Hyechka Club Tulsa as a civic committee member and to the American Federation of Musicians. Since 2002, she has also served as a member of the Tulsa Now Task Force. She also served as a judge in the Veterans Day Parade in Tulsa, director of the Tulsa Honors Orchestra and affiliate of Stardust Strolling String.

Since entering her field, Ms. Rad has received a multitude of awards and accolades, including the Nonprofit in the Spotlight Award from Congressman Jim Bridenstein, Superior Civilian Service Award from the Department of the U.S. Army, and the Teacher Touching Tomorrow Award from the Tula Public Schools.
