Laila El Gammal is well recognized in the textiles industry, having accrued over 50 years of experience in the business. As the president and managing director of GIES and Nobeltex – leading providers of textile machinery and accessories – Ms. El Gammal has enhanced the reputation of the family business that she inherited from her father, Mohamed Hussein El Gammal.
Since taking the helm of the company, Ms. El Gammal has proven to have exceptional skills in sales, which has distinguished her as one of the best Agents for first-class international suppliers.
Ms. El Gammal started her professional career as a chemical engineer at the National Spinning and Weaving Company, working on the production line at the Dyeing and Bleaching Mill. She then joined Misr Rayon Company, where the company’s president frequently called upon her to guide foreign delegates who visited the factory. Notably, Ms. El Gammal was chosen over 30 other engineers in the company and was granted a scholarship for one year at the Textile Institute of Tashkent in Uzbekistan.
While working at Misr Rayon, Ms. El Gammal also taught chemistry and physics part-time at the French schools Notre Dame de Sion and College de la Mere de Dieu. When she quit her job at Misr Rayon for personal reasons, she contemplated working as a teacher in a full-time capacity, but her father asked her to join him at GIES, the family-owned company. She accepted. She took over the responsibility a few years later after he passed away, leading the company to remarkable growth and expanding the business to a group of 3 companies: Nobeltex, GIES and IEI.
As a testament to her success, Ms. El Gammal was bestowed the Award for Excellence in Business in 2007. Additionally, she was invited to the World Bank as one of the model ladies’ entrepreneurs of the Mena region.
Looking toward the future, Ms. El Gammal intends to enjoy her retirement by spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.
