Since 1980, John S. Titus has excelled as the president and owner of Perception, Inc., located in Prior Lake, Minnesota. During his tenure with his company, he has developed over 50 U.S. and foreign patents, including such patents as “Electronic Ignition Module with Rev Limiting” in 2013, “Boom Stand” in 2009 and 2010, and “Storage Lift” in 2004, among others. While working with Perception, Inc., Mr. Titus worked directly with Jostens, the largest plant ring manufacturer across the globe. With his participation, Jostens became among the most successful manufacturing companies in the world. To this end, Mr. Titus built a stone-setting machine to aid the company in breaking stones. Additionally, his inventions aided Jostens in establishing a new plant after several workers went on strike, allowing the company to continue prospering for years to come.
While serving Perception, Inc., Mr. Titus also served National Computer Systems in Edina, Minnesota, as vice president from 1985 to 1990, Xtal, Inc., in Burnsville, Minnesota, as president from 1990 to 1995, and Intercim, Inc., in Burnsville as chief technical officer from 1995 to 2000. He was also the founder of the Perkins Restaurant in Minneapolis. Throughout his career, Mr. Titus has participated in a myriad of public speaking engagements on his work and received numerous certificates of appreciation in light of his expertise in electrical engineering, designing and mechanics.
Among his many patents, Mr. Titus is especially proud of inventing a heart attack predictor used for open-heart surgery, which has seen much use in the medical community. Likewise, he is proud to have invented Computerized Numerical Controllers (CNC). Prior to embarking on his career, he received a formal education at the University of Oklahoma, receiving a Bachelor of Science in industrial education in 1964. Many years later, he also earned a certificate in computer graphics from the University of Michigan in 1984.
To remain abreast of developments in his industry, Mr. Titus maintains affiliation with the Inventors Network of Minnesota and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue lending his time and expertise to Perception, Inc., and witness the continued growth of his career.
