Linda L. Parker is well-regarded for her tenure as the co-owner and curator of the Bedford Boys Tribute Center in Bedford, Virginia, a museum highlighting the sacrifices and accomplishments of the Bedford Boys, a group of soldiers killed in action during the D-Day invasion of Normandy during World War II.

Established in 2019, the center was conceived in 2018, when Ms. Parker and her husband attended a commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the military landing on Omaha Beach. Moved deeply by the story of the 20 soldiers and the impact their loss had on the community in Bedford, Ms. Parker and her husband felt a calling to elevate the story of the Bedford Boys and began reaching out to local residents, churches and history groups. Ms. Parker’s desire to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers quickly grew into what would become the Bedford Boys Tribute Center, and as she and her husband continued researching and collecting oral histories from residents, they relocated to Bedford to resume their illuminating work.

Since its opening in 2019, the Bedford Boys Tribute Center has hosted hundreds of local students annually, many of whom have family ties to the Bedford Boys. Looking ahead, Ms. Parker endeavors to secure an endowment that will allow the center to continue its mission for generations to come.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Parker was a children’s book author, penning the three-book “Austin and Charlie Adventures” series, which she promoted nationwide through readings and presentations. She also contributed to the 2024 documentary film “We Have Casualties…” and looks forward to sharing her expertise with the public through other media.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Parker endeavors to continue promoting the cultural relevance of the Bedford Boys Tribute Center, with plans for extended outreach as part of the center’s mission. In accounting for her success, Ms. Parker credits her sense of empathy and ability to listen, noting that numerous individuals have opened up to her about the Bedford Boys and their impact on their lives. Ultimately, she considers the establishment of the Bedford Boys Tribute Center to be her greatest accomplishment to date.
