
Possessing nearly 50 years of professional experience, Peter R. Spanos is a distinguished figure in the fields of labor and employment law. Since 2025, he has served as a principal at Offit Kurman, where he focuses on labor relations and provides counsel to a diverse array of entities, including for-profit and nonprofit organizations across various industries. With specialization in union negotiations, collective bargaining and grievances related to field labor practices, Mr. Spanos has also guided his clients through regulatory changes to aid in their understanding of and adaptation to new compliance requirements.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Spanos served as a partner at numerous different law firms. From 2020 to 2025, he served as a partner at Taylor English Duma LLP, concurrently holding the same position at Akerman LLP from 2019 to 2025. Likewise, from 2013 to 2019, he was a partner at Barnes & Thornburg LLP, and from 2003 to 2013, he was a partner at Burr & Forman LLP. Previously, Mr. Spanos served as a founding partner of Spanos & Rochelle from 1994 to 1997 and as the managing partner of Hendrick, Spanos & Phillips from 1984 to 1992, during which time he was also recognized as a founding partner in 1981. Mr. Spanos began his career as an associate and later became a partner at Stokes & Shapiro in 1976.
Outside of his professional career, Mr. Spanos has contributed his time to civic initiatives within his community. Formerly serving as outside general counsel for a nonprofit trade association, he also participated in the Labor and Employment Law Council for Associated General Contractors and served on the board of directors of Reflection Ministries. Moreover, Mr. Spanos is a member of the parish council at Saint Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church and is a valued member of the Harvard Club of Georgia.
Mr. Spanos received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and was admitted to practice law in the state of Georgia in 1976. During his time as a law student, he served as the editor-in-chief of the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform. Also holding a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, from which he graduated cum laude in 1970, Mr. Spanos was subsequently admitted to the D.C. Bar Association in 1980, as well as before the Supreme Court of the United States in 1981 and the U.S. Claims Court in 1982.
In the coming years, Mr. Spanos intends to continue thriving in his role at Offit Kurman while remaining abreast of developments in labor and employment law. Born in Indiana, he currently resides in Georgia with his spouse, BJ.
