
Supported by more than 20 years of professional experience, Essam M. Mahmoud is distinguished in the hospitality sector for his ownership of Soprano’s Italian Franchise LLC in Virginia. A highly successful entrepreneur and restaurateur, he commenced his first business with Soprano’s Italian Restaurant in 2004, and after several years of growth, he opened a second location in 2008.
Currently recognized as Soprano’s Italian Franchise, the business has experienced much acclaim, including receiving several accolades. Among these, Mr. Mahmoud was bestowed with the President’s Bronze Award in 2024 and was ranked first in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2015. Earlier in his career, he also earned the Madrid Fusion Upcoming Chef Award in 2003. Looking toward the future of his franchise, Mr. Mahmoud aims to expand his product lines in numerous markets and partner with various suppliers, including Food Lion, to broaden the reach of his business.
Prior to establishing his own businesses, Mr. Mahmoud worked in the restaurant industry in several roles, starting out as a dishwasher and escalating to such positions as busboy, waiter, cook and manager. During this time, he discovered his affinity and passion for the field and sought to become a respected entrepreneur in his own right. Previously, Mr. Mahmoud served as a lawyer in his home country of Egypt, having graduated with a law degree prior to immigrating to the United States at the age of 21. However, after encountering hardship with wages and language barriers, he decided to pivot his career to hospitality and has since been met with much success.
In accounting for his success, Mr. Mahmoud credits his mentor, who imparted valuable knowledge and expertise in the restaurant industry, leading Mr. Mahmoud toward his own flourishing business. He also attributes his acclaim to his diligent work ethic and dedication to his craft. Living and working by the mantra, “Don’t give up,” Mr. Mahmoud is determined to take his business to new heights and witness further success.
