Dr. Emily Moore, the founder and executive director of the Alliance Junior Tennis Development Program, is highly regarded for her expertise in education and sportsmanship. In her position since 1975, she has taught the fundamentals of athleticism and etiquette of tennis and developed a curriculum to instruct tennis students. In this regard, Dr. Moore has leveraged her understanding of tennis to encourage structure and discipline in children. Concurrently, she served as a physical education teacher at Ulysses Byas Elementary School in Roosevelt, New York, for many years until her educational retirement in 2019. Despite her retirement, Dr. Moore continues to serve as a school board member of the Roosevelt School District.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Moore served as a teacher at Roosevelt Middle School and spent two years teaching at Brooklyn College. Adjacent to her primary profession, she was a varsity boys’ and girls’ tennis coach in Roosevelt and spent ample time committed to civil rights movements across the globe. To this end, she is an ambassador of the People-to-People Ambassador Program in South Africa and previously volunteered with the Peace Corps in Nigeria. Having organized the Friends of SNCC in Paris, she also traveled to Puerto Rico to visit various schools, libraries, prisons and museums in the early 1970s.

In light of her outstanding feats in education, civil rights and tennis promotion, Dr. Moore was the subject of the book, “My Journey: The Life and Times of Dr. Emily Moore, Civil Rights Activist, Physical Educator, Philanthropist and Hall of Famer,” published in 2024. The biography was written by Ayanna L. Moore and is available in Barnes & Noble bookstores.

The recipient of a myriad of accolades, Dr. Moore was most recently honored by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women in 2025. Earlier, she earned the SCOPE Award for Community Service and was inducted into the 34th Annual Eastern Hall of Fame in 2021. Moreover, Dr. Moore was inducted into the Black Tennis Hall of Fame by the American Tennis Association and received the Dr. Martin Luther King Community Award from Centennial Avenue Elementary School in 2019. She also accepted the Women of Distinction Award from Nassau County, New York, in 2015, among many other awards.

Dr. Moore holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Science in physical education from Morgan State University. She also received a Master of Science in education and counseling from Hofstra University.
