Dr. Madina E. Ndefru, a pronounced figure in academic economics, draws upon more than 45 years of excellence in her profession. Currently, she serves as an adjunct professor of economics at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio, where she teaches various economics courses, French, and international and comparative education in face-to-face classes, asynchronous and synchronous online classes, and hybrid classes. During her longstanding tenure in education, Dr. Ndefru has swiftly adapted to any campus organization and environment, drawing upon her varied experiences to help enrich students’ lives and render their learning experience engaging.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Ndefru served in several academic appointments, including as an adjunct professor of economics at Case Western Reserve University, Lorain County Community College, Sinclair Community College and Wright State University. She was also an adjunct faculty member at Central State University in the spring of 1998, having spent her former years in Kano, Nigeria, as a senior lecturer, an associate professor of economics, and a full professor of economics at Bayero University between 1979 and 1995. While there, she assumed increasingly responsible positions in teaching and supervision in the School of General Studies and the Department of Economics, for which she was the department head in the 1990s. Furthermore, she chaired the Kano chapter of the Nigerian Economic Society.

Always disciplined in her approach to education, Dr. Ndefru is highly educated, having most recently received a Doctor of Philosophy in economics from Ahmadu Bello University in 1992 – an achievement she considers to be a highlight of her career. Equipped with dedication, focus, and a willingness to learn and apply herself to any task to the best of her ability, she attributes her success to her perseverance amid adversity. In this regard, she was honored with Teaching Excellence Awards from Sinclair Community College and Cuyahoga Community College.

An alumnus of Indiana University Bloomington, Dr. Ndefru holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics, a Bachelor of Arts in French, a Master of Arts in economics, and a Master of Science in international and comparative education. During the 1970s, she notably participated in “Voice in America” while tending to her academic studies.

Among her several vocational achievements, Dr. Ndefru is gratified by the opportunities to make economics accessible to students, helping them master the subject’s principles and develop their interests in the subject. Likewise, she has been committed to excellence, employing innovative technologies to deliver her lectures. Looking ahead, Dr. Ndefru intends to continue researching and publishing in her areas of expertise before easing into a well-deserved retirement.
