Supported by more than five decades of professional excellence, Dr. Thomas E. Rehm is well-versed in the fields of chemical engineering and climate change. Since 2023, he has served as the president of GSOP Climate Collaboration Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting proposals to discover the best ways to address climate change and combat against the negative effects of global warming. Since formally retiring from his profession as a chemical engineer in 2009, Dr. Rehm has committed much of his time to raising awareness of climate change, emphasizing the importance of approaching climate challenges with innovative solutions.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Rehm served as a senior project engineer for UOP in Des Plaines, Illinois, from 1972 to 1981. Thereafter, he completed his master’s degree and doctoral studies, culminating in a Doctor of Philosophy in chemical engineering, which he earned from Northwestern University in 1985. Thereafter, Dr. Rehm served as a research engineer for Amoco Chemical in Naperville, Illinois, from 1985 to 1992 and a senior engineer for CH&A Corporation in Kingwood, Texas, from 1993 to 1997. Prior to his retirement from engineering, he was a senior loss prevention engineer for Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia between 1997 and 2009. Though retired, he then spent a decade working as a part-time consultant.
Impressively, Dr. Rehm is certified as a professional engineer and received credentials from the Center for Chemical Process Safety. A fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers since 2019, he has further lent his expertise to the Engineering, Science and Technology Council of Houston as a climate solutions liaison since 2020. Previously, he was a founding member of the Climate Solutions Community through the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, for which he was also a past chairperson of the organization’s South Texas section.
Looking ahead, Dr. Rehm intends to continue focusing on global warming. Ultimately, he aims to elevate the GSOP proposal’s visibility among policymakers and decision-makers involved in capital funding decisions to ensure that effective climate solutions are being adequately addressed.
