Supported by more than five decades of professional experience, Dr. Edward L. Morse is well-regarded in the fields of finance, international affairs and commodity strategy. Since 2024, he has served as a senior advisor at Hartree Partners, where he maintains responsibility for advising senior management on matters such as acquisitions. Notably, in his role, he is the leading individual responsible for commodity strategy for the company, which is involved in oil, gas, commodities trading and investments.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Morse served in a myriad of positions related to his areas of expertise, including as the managing director and global head of commodity research at Citi Group between 2011 and 2023. Likewise, he served as the managing director and head of commodity research at Credit Suisse from 2010 to 2011 and a managing director at Louis Capital Markets, Energy Strategist and Lehman Brothers between 2006 and 2010. Previously, Dr. Morse was the chief economist at the Hess Energy Trading Center from 1999 to 2006, as well as a publisher for the Energy Intelligence Group from 1988 to 1999. Notably, he also thrived as a partner and co-founder of the Petroleum Finance Company in 1988, having formerly served as the head of international affairs at the Philips Petroleum Company from 1981 to 1983. Dr. Morse also excelled as the deputy assistant secretary of state, energy and sanctions from 1977 to 1981 and a senior fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations from 1975 to 1977. He commenced his career in 1969 as an assistant professor of international affairs at his alma mater, Princeton University, where he remained for six years.
Impressively, Dr. Morse served as a senior advisor for the government of Yemen, aiding them in developing an oil pricing strategy after the country began producing oil. He also advised the Secretary General of the United Nations in establishing the Oil for Food Program in Iraq and has been interviewed and featured frequently on television for his preeminent expertise. Furthermore, Dr. Morse is noteworthy for authoring several books and professional articles on topics such as energy, economics and international affairs.
