Leveraging more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. John M. Currin is well-regarded in the fields of higher education, history and public affairs. With a rich background in strategic communication, Dr. Currin excels as a strategic planner in communication synchronization at Gemini Industries. Since 2009, he has lent his expertise to the organization, developing communication strategies for reviewing diplomatic, concept and operational plans and orders. He also leads and participates in various working groups involving international partners.
Dr. Currin served as a strategic communication and public affairs planner with the Special Applications Group and Vistra Communications from 2012 to 2014 and 2014 to 2020, respectively. He also served in the same capacity at Cubic Applications Inc. between 2009 and 2012. Previously, Dr. Currin was involved in government affairs, having been a director of fact-checking for presidential speechwriting in the Executive Office of the President from 2003 to 2006 and a special assistant for congressional research and director of the legislative support team in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs from 2006 to 2009.
Lending his expertise to academia as well, Dr. Currin was an adjunct professor of history at Glendale Community College and Mankato State University, having also served as a researcher in the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Arizona State University, a teacher, registrar and college liaison officer at Tempe Preparatory Academy, and the assistant director and seminar chair at the Phoenix Institute Oxford Summer Program. Notably, he was an invited professor at Instituto Tecnológico y Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, a visiting tutor in history at Plater College, and a senior lecturer in history at the University of Mary Washington. He commenced his career in the late 1980s at his alma mater, the University of Minnesota, serving as a teaching assistant, research assistant and history instructor. During this time, he was a research student at the Institute of Historical Research of the University of London.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Currin earned a bachelor’s degree in history, with honors, from the University of Arizona in 1981. He then received a master’s degree from Arizona State University in 1984. After accruing years in his profession, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in history from the University of Minnesota in 1995.
Among the many milestones of his career, Dr. Currin is particularly proud of his research endeavors on Henry VII’s foreign policies, which have been instrumental in altering historical perspectives on Henry VII. To wit, Dr. Currin is cited in the chapter “The French Connection” in David Wildman’s book “Tudor Empire,” regarding his research on Henry VII and his involvement in the French-Breton War during the 15th century. Dr. Currin has also penned 14 other publications with a desire to publish additional books on his research interests. Looking toward the future, Dr. Currin aims to complete his forthcoming book on Henry VII after easing into a well-deserved retirement.
