Leveraging more than 15 years of professional excellence, Janene E. Smith is well-regarded for her expertise in finance and business. Since 2024, she has thrived as a senior financial analyst at Voya Financial, where her responsibilities include assessing operational procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness and preparing for quarterly and annual activities within the organization. Joining the team at Voya Financial in 2022, she first served as a GAAP reporting accountant for separate accounts and was subsequently promoted to the role of a financial analyst within the same year. During this time, Ms. Smith prepared disclosures and financial support for quarterly and annual financial statements, among a myriad of other tasks. Impressively, she spearheaded a project at the organization that involved developing a monthly report of profit and loss (P&L) outcomes, which was met with much acclaim by executive management teams.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Smith served with Honda Manufacturing of Alabama LLC between 2008 and 2021, having commenced her career as an accounting co-op. Swiftly escalating through the ranks, she then became a cost accounting analyst and a capital investment analyst until 2016. From there, she served as the cost accounting lead and a managerial reporting analyst until 2019. Prior to departing from the organization in 2021, she served as the managerial reporting lead beginning in 2019. To wit, Ms. Smith’s foundational experiences at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama LLC laid the groundwork for her subsequent endeavors and success.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Smith pursued an education at Jacksonville State University. In 2007, she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. During this time, she was also inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honor society, where she is also recognized as a lifetime member. In accounting for her success, she credits her natural curiosity, keen attention to detail, and sense of determination, as well as her understanding of financial reporting, which has allowed her opportunities to enhance business processes and achieve personal and professional goals.
In the coming years, Ms. Smith aims to continue advancing in her career with Voya Financial and eventually transition into a role that will allow her the opportunity to become more deeply involved in process improvement, innovation and mentorship. Outside of her professional endeavors, Ms. Smith enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and expressing her creativity via various avenues such as poetry, writing and art.
