Well-regarded for his comprehensive expertise in civil litigation as a trial attorney, Patrick L. Edgerton, Esq., has excelled in the field of law for more than 25 years. Concentrating his practice on commercial litigation, collections, mechanic’s liens, construction, contracts, real estate and landlord/tenant issues, he has served as an attorney with his father’s esteemed firm, Edgerton & Edgerton, Attorneys at Law, since 1996. Now recognized as a firm partner, Mr. Edgerton is well-respected as a litigator across Illinois.

Adjacent to his primary appointment, Mr. Edgerton is an arbitrator for DuPage, Kane and McHenry Counties and has shared his breadth of knowledge as an attorney with Lawyer in the Lobby since 2011, a civic organization that offers free legal services monthly through the Kane County Courthouse. He has also volunteered with Ask a Lawyer since 2018, which offers legal aid to economically disenfranchised citizens through the DuPage County Courthouse. Moreover, Mr. Edgerton is a mounted ranger, former director and former vice president of the Kane County Mounted Rangers in Geneva, Illinois. To remain aware of industry developments, he has been a member, director, judge’s right participant, and former board director and chairperson of the DuPage County Bar Association. Likewise, he is a member, former membership chairperson and former team captain of the DuPage County American Inns of Court (now known as the Robert E. Jones American Inns of Court).

Earlier in his career, Mr. Edgerton served as an in-house law clerk and a legal assistant for many law firms, as well as a deputy clerk for the Circuit Clerk and County Clerk of Kane County. Distinguished for his legal prowess, Mr. Edgerton attained distinction as the youngest chair-qualified arbitrator during his early years in law and has represented clients in 12 jury trials and hundreds of arbitrations. Moreover, he has lectured frequently in his field, including covering arbitration court, small claims court, the Home Repair and Remodeling Act, the Moorman Doctrine and the Certificate of Release Act, among others. In addition, he is well-versed in scholarly endeavors, having contributed articles to the professional publications of the DuPage County Bar Association and his alma mater, Northern Illinois University.

Mr. Edgerton holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence, graduating magna cum laude from the Northern Illinois University College of Law in 1996. During his legal studies, he served as the managing editor of the university’s Law Review between 1995 and 1996 and, subsequently, served as an intern with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a testament to his success, Mr. Edgerton has been bestowed with numerous accolades, such as thrice being named among Who’s Who Top Attorneys of North America from 2021 to 2023 and as Attorney of the Year by Top 100 Attorneys in Illinois in 2023. In 2020, Mr. Edgerton won the Pro Bono Service Award from the 18th Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee and was named Litigator of the Year for Civil Litigation by the American Institute of Trial Lawyers. Previously, he was twice distinguished by Lawyers of Distinction for Excellence in Civil Litigation and as one of the Top-Rated Lawyers in Illinois for Civil Litigation.
