Bolstered by nearly 40 years of professional experience, Lillian Marks Broadway Williams is a figurehead in the field of education. From 1986 until her retirement from education in 2015, she served with the Colquitt County Board of Education in Georgia, excelling as a middle school language arts and social studies teacher. Likewise, she also spent time as a substitute teacher, clerical paraprofessional and guidance secretary during her time with the Colquitt County Board of Education. Earlier in her career, Ms. Williams served with the Moultrie Federal Savings and Loan Association in Georgia for eight years.

To prepare for her career, Ms. Williams pursued postsecondary education at Paine College, receiving a degree in 1976. After years of experience in her field, she returned to higher education, completing a postgraduate degree at Albany State University in 1992. Outside of her primary endeavors, she has also lent her expertise to her local community, having served as a church musician, chorister, church treasurer, volunteer teacher for the summer enrichment program, and chairperson of the church fundraising program. Additionally, Ms. Williams has donated funds to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

To remain abreast of developments in her field, Ms. Williams has aligned herself with the Georgia Retired Educators Association and the Colquitt County Retired Educators Association. She is also a member of the Lambda Xi Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Women’s Federated Club of Moultrie and the General Missionary Society, among other organizations.

Ms. Williams has been honored on numerous occasions for her prestigious work in church activities and education. Inducted into the Wall of Honor for Outstanding Service by her local church in 2012, she was also nominated for Teacher of the Year in 2002. Likewise, she previously received a Literacy Award in 1994, as well as a Perfect Attendance Award, an Award for Dedicated Service, the Outstanding Activism and Service Award to Mankind, and three Community Awards from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Moreover, Ms. Williams was the recipient of the Summer Enrichment Program Award from the Williams Tabernacle C.M.E. Church and the Outstanding and Dedicated Service Award from the board of directors of the R.D. Smith Youth Center.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Williams intends to continue working alongside young individuals and students. Currently, she is helping to establish an after-school program in Moultrie, Georgia.
