Drawing upon over 10 years of experience in community service, Chanel D. Weathers has excelled as the director of education and employment at Lantern Community Services in New York since 2021. Following a five-year tenure as Lantern Community Services’ employment services supervisor, she was promoted to her present role, where she maintains responsibility for supervising a team of 11 employees, overseeing quality assurance specifications, and conducting financial literacy and developmental training courses.
Alongside her present position, Ms. Weathers has also served as an advisor for AdvisoryCloud, Inc., since 2021 and an independent travel agent and owner of Chanel’s Travel Channel since 2022, where she arranges travel packages for individuals, groups and corporations. Earlier in her career, she thrived in a myriad of community-related roles, including as a career development advisor and research and evaluation assistant at Outreach in Richmond Hill, New York, from 2014 to 2018. Likewise, she was a case manager and employment specialist at Women in Need, Inc., between 2013 and 2014. She commenced her career in 2012 as a residential specialist at Safe Horizon, holding the role until 2013.
Before the onset of her career, Ms. Weathers pursued formal education at Albany State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2011. She went on to obtain a Master of Public Administration in inspection and oversight from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2014 and received a financial counseling certification from the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education in 2021. To remain abreast of developments in her field, she maintains active affiliation with the International Society of Female Professionals and the Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honor Society.
Outside of her primary efforts, Ms. Weathers enjoys dedicating her time to civic service, having been a staunch supporter of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and a volunteer tax professional at Ariva. Likewise, she is an executive board member of the Association of Vocational Rehabilitation in Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (AVRASA). As a testament to her success, Ms. Weathers received the Leaders in the Field Award from the Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honor Society.
