Drawing upon over 35 years of professional experience in the field of medicine, Barbara A. Benson has excelled as a certified nuclear medicine technologist and a registered diagnostic medical sonographer at Coastal Cardiology since 2001. She is also a technical director at Coastal Cardiology, a position in which she has served since 2007. Additionally, since 1986, she has been a certified nuclear medicine technologist at Twin Cities Community Hospital. Earlier in her career, Ms. Benson served in a private doctor’s office and a medical center in Wilmington, Delaware.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Benson pursued a formal education at Brandywine Junior College, earning an associate degree in 1968. Subsequently, she was certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in 1974. Ms. Benson became a certified nuclear medicine technologist in 1975 and a registered diagnostic medical sonographer in 1985.
Outside of her primary endeavors, Ms. Benson has remained affiliated with several civic organizations. A member of the clinical board of the professional education committee of the American Cancer Society, she is also a former president of the West Tennessee Organization of Nuclear Medicine Technologists. Likewise, she has been a coordinator for the American Heart Association and a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine.
As a testament to her success, Ms. Benson was nominated for Employee of the Year by Twin Cities Community Hospital in 2000. She was further recognized for outstanding service as president of the Western Tennessee Organization of Nuclear Medicine Technologists in 1979. Attributing much of her success to her passion for her work and desire to help others, she intends to retire from her full-time positions in the coming years. Post retirement, Ms. Benson aims to volunteer at various homeless shelters in her area, spend time with her family and travel.
