Since 2004, Bette Walker Philpott Cook has excelled as the administrative assistant for the Thornton Corporation in San Marino, California. Prior to taking on her most recent role, she served in myriad executive-level positions in the real estate and banking industries, including as an administrator for the SSWS Law Office, investment advisor for LA Live Corporation, and investment advisor and personal financial planner for IDS/American Express and Bank of America in Pasadena, California. Earlier in her career, she served William E. Simon & Sons in Westwood, California, and West Federal Holdings, Inc., in Marina Del Rey. She is a past vice president of WSGP Financial Management Company in Century City, California, International Capital Management in Beverly Hills, California, and Sundance Homes California, Inc., and International Investment Counsel, both in Los Angeles.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Cook flourished as a real estate salesperson for Ackerman Real Estate Services in the mid-tolate 1970s, as well as a kindergarten teacher for the American Nicaraguan School in Managua, Nicaragua, during her overseas travels to Panama, Colombia and Nicaragua. She commenced her career in 1964 as a personnel-testing specialist for North America Aviation in El Segundo, California.
Ms. Cook is supported by a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of California Los Angeles, which she attained in 1964, and she holds several licenses. She is a Registered Investment Advisor and holds a series seven securities license, life and variable annuities insurance license, long term care insurance license, and real estate licenses in California, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Additionally, she received a financial planner certification from the University of California Los Angeles.
As a testament to her success, Ms. Cook was selected for inclusion in the 16th through 18th editions of Who’s Who of American Women and the 28th edition of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry. A former member of various civic and charitable boards, she has maintained membership with the American Association of University Women, the National Organization for Women, the League of Women Voters, the National Women’s Political Caucus and the English Speaking Union.
Married to her husband Donald Cook since 1982, Ms. Cook has four children: Jane, Anne, James and Dan. She also has eight grandchildren. She enjoys traveling in her spare time.
