Dr. David H. McMahon is a pronounced figure in the world of chemistry. At the inception of his career in 1967, he served Exxon Research & Engineering Company in Linden, New Jersey, as a chemist for three years before beginning his tenure with Union Camp Corporation in Princeton, New Jersey, in 1970. During his time spent with the corporation, he served as a group leader and senior chemist until his retirement in 1999. At Union Camp, his areas of research were related to flavors and fragrance chemicals from wood. Union Camp later merged with International Paper. Throughout his profession, he thoroughly enjoyed working for companies whose employees developed a bond with one another, citing this as a career highlight. Delving into the field of chemistry from a young age, he knew that he wanted to pursue the industry upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. McMahon has excelled in civic duties. A former assistant scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America in Valley Falls, New York, from 1960 to 1963, he later became vice chair of the Somerset Hills Jaycees in Bernardsville, New Jersey, from 1974 to 1978. Likewise, he has shared his wealth of knowledge with the scientific community through his role as an associate editor for several chemistry journals, such as Chromatography Illustrated, a position he fulfilled in 1990 and 1992. In retirement, Dr. McMahon continued to serve as an associate editor for the Journal of Chromatographic Science from 1988 to 2015.
Dr. McMahon has participated in several class reunions since graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1963. He notes that there is still a strong bond that exists between him and his classmates, and he continues to help coordinate alumni events at the Saratoga Race Course once per year. As a testament to his success in the field, Dr. McMahon has been featured in the 29th edition of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, published in 1995.
A native of Valley Falls, New York, Dr. McMahon currently resides in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. He is the proud father of one child and grandfather of four grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys antique cars and boating.
