Since she was a child, Dr. Kimberly Rae Carlson has always loved science, surgery, and animals. Her progression in the veterinary field was a natural one from her childhood passion. In 2001, she received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She then served as a surgical resident at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Grafton, MA, for three years. From 2006 to 2011, she served as a surgeon at Veterinary Surgical Centers Delta in Berkeley, CA. During this appointment, she also became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Today, with an expertise in oncologic surgery, orthopedic surgery, and trauma, Dr. Carlson offers her services at Bay Area Veterinary Specialists in San Leandro, CA.
In addition to her primary appointments in the field, Dr. Carlson also frequently gives back to her community by providing low cost surgery for underprivileged clients. In addition, she previously served as the president of the Alameda County Veterinary Medical Association for five years and has contributed her expertise by contributing articles to professional journals in the field. Outside of her professional duties, Dr. Carlson also volunteers with local children’s school.
