A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Ronald C. Whittemore initially wanted to pursue a career in the military. However, when he married his wife, Lillian Marie Therriault, he decided to venture onto a different career path in order to build a family. He went on to attend programming school, where he graduated magna cum laude. In 1966, he became a computer programmer for Cross Co. in Hartford, VT. From 1968 to 1979, Mr. Whittemore offered his expertise as a senior programmer at Joy Manufacturing in Claremont, NH, and at Computac LLC in West Lebanon, NH. He stepped in to his current role as programming manager for Datamann Inc. in Wilder, VT. In 1984, he also received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Hawthorne College.
In addition to his career as a computer program analyst, Mr. Whittemore has also become an accomplished athlete. He began running in order to stay in shape and eventually started running every day in his spare time. He has competed in multiple 5K and 10K races, often winning in his age division. He has qualified for and attended every National Senior Games since 1995 and in 2013, he placed second and ranked fourth in the nation in the long jump. Mr. Whittemore currently holds the record in Claremont, NH, for the most consecutive days gone running, and he holds second place in the state of New Hampshire, according to the United States Running Streak Association. He was also named an All-American in the long jump and triple jump by USA Track & Field Inc. at the New Hampshire Senior Games. Mr. Whittemore’s athletic accomplishments have earned him several features in the sports section of local New Hampshire newspapers, The Eagle Times and Valley News. In his spare time, he also enjoys chess, softball, reading, and bicycling.
