With an expertise in reading and a desire to be a teacher from a young age, Janice Carol Berg spent her career as a dedicated educator. In 1975, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Slippery Rock State College (now Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania), and went on to become a third grade teacher in the Brookville Area School District in Pennsylvania. Then, from 1977 to 1979, she resided in Seoul, South Korea as a first grade teacher. Upon her return to the United States, she obtained a Master of Education from Slippery Rock University. She is also a certified elementary teacher in the state of Pennsylvania, and she received certification as a reading specialist through Clarion University of Pennsylvania and certification in early childhood education from Slippery Rock University. After receiving her certifications, she briefly served as a reading specialist in the Punxsutawney Area School District in Pennsylvania before spending the majority of her career as a reading specialist at Allegheny-Clarion Valley Elementary School in Foxburg, PA.
In addition to her primary appointments in education, Ms. Berg has also briefly served as a private tutor in Brookville, PA, and as a substitute teacher in the Derry Township School District in Hershey, PA. Civically, Ms. Berg has been active in her church as a vacation Biible school director, a Sunday school teacher, and the chairman of the Christian Education Committee. She was also the den leader and chairman of the committee for the Boy Scouts of America in Elizabethtown, PA. Throughout her career, Ms. Berg has been most grateful to be able work with students and achieve her goals as a reading specialist. In her spare time outside of work, she enjoys swimming, hiking, bicycling, reading, and playing table tennis.
