With more than 50 years of experience, Frederick R. Singer, MD was inspired to go into medicine after a respected high school teacher suggested he pursue the field. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1960. He then earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco in 1963. He completed his internship in 1964, and then went on to complete two consecutive residencies at the VA Hospital in Los Angeles. Dr. Singer is also certified through the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

In 1971, Dr. Singer started his career as an instructor in medicine at Harvard University. He then went on to become an assistant professor of medicine at the University of California and at the University of Southern California. He remained at the University of Southern California for 16 years before become the director of the Bone Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Specializing in research related to Paget’s disease of bone, he now serves as a clinical professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California.

In addition to his primary positions, Dr. Singer is also the director of the osteoporosis/ metabolic bone disease program at St. John’s Hospital and Health Center and director of the skeletal biology lab at the John Wayne Cancer Institute. He also served on the endocrine and metabolic drug advisory committee of the Food and Drug Administration; as well as vice chairman of the community advisory committee of University High School in Los Angeles; and as a clinical investigator at the VA Hospital. As an expert in his field, Dr. Singer has contributed to numerous articles, professional journals, and book chapters, and he authored an industry text titled, “Paget’s Disease of Bone.”
