Charles W. Mains

With 40 years of professional experience in medicine, Charles W. Mains, MD, FACS, has been serving as a surgeon in vascular, general and trauma surgery at Surgical Specialists of Colorado and doctor at Weston & Mains, PC, since 1991. As a vascular surgeon, Dr. Mains focuses his practice on the diagnosis and management of disorders of the arterial, venous and lymphatic systems through medical therapy, minimally invasive procedures and surgical reconstruction. Treating such conditions as abdominal aortic aneurysms, appendicitis, intestinal obstruction and malignant neoplasm of the colon, among others, he most commonly performs appendectomies, oophorectomies, peripheral vascular bypasses and small bowel resections.

Dr. Mains commenced his career as a student at The University of Tennessee, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1973. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center in 1977. Soon thereafter, he completed a general surgery internship at the medical center in 1978, followed by a general surgery residency at the School of Medicine of the University of Colorado from 1978 to 1982. He has since been certified by the American Board of Surgery and licensed to practice medicine in the state of Colorado.

Affiliated with the NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn and Saint Anthony Hospital, Dr. Mains has been a frequent lecturer in his field and the author and co-author of more than 100 scientific publications in esteemed journals, such as “Cell Death After Traumatic Brain Injury: Detrimental Role of Anoikis in Healing” and “A Multicenter Performance Improvement Program Uses Rural Trauma Filters for Benchmarking: An Evaluation of the Findings” in 2018, “Epidemiology of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury with Intracranial Hemorrhage: Focusing Predictive Models for Neurosurgical Intervention” in 2017, and “Statin Discontinuation and Mortality in an Older Adult Population with Traumatic Brain Injury: A Four-year, Multi-centre, Observational Cohort Study” in 2016.
