Amassing more than 30 years of experience in the area of investment banking, Alan Jones is an esteemed figure in his field, currently acting as head of private equity with Morgan Stanley since 2010. Prior to this engagement, he served Morgan Stanley in a number of roles, including as coverage officer, head of European leveraged finance, head of global leveraged finance, head of global finance sponsor group, head of corporate finance and co-head of private equity. An influential individual, he commenced his career as a high-yield banker with First Boston from the late 1980s to early 1990s.
A celebrated member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Mr. Jones has been a board member of the dean’s advisory with the prestigious Harvard Business School at Harvard University since 2017. Mr. Jones has long been a patron of the arts with a particular focus on the theater. He serves as a Trustee for the American Repertory Theater at Harvard and as member of the U.S. Board of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. Also active in global affairs, he is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Mr. Jones began his academic career as a biochemistry major, aspiring to delve into the field of medicine. However, he stumbled upon his career in finance through a unique opportunity brought forth to him by his third-grade teacher during his sophomore year in college. Discovering investment banking, Mr. Jones thoroughly enjoyed the profession and found it to be a fascinating, dynamic field. Since his entrance in the vocation, he has never looked back, finding pleasure in continuously learning and working.
Mr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration from Harvard University in 1983 and 1987, respectively. Happily married with two children, Megan and Caitlin, he enjoys reading, music, art, wine, traveling, the theater and sports in his spare time. Notably, he has been named a Marquis Who’s Who Top Executive and honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition, Mr. Jones has been selected for inclusion into several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in the World.
