A revered figure in the medical field of optometry, Dr. Cecilia Pursel Williams has accrued approximately 45 years of experience in her areas of expertise. Serving as an optometrist in private practice in Springfield, Va., since 1980, Dr. Williams prides herself on her passion for communicating with patients and helping them with the utmost compassion and care. Prior to her current appointment, she served as an optometrist with the Sterling Optical Contact Lens Center in Washington, D.C., from 1974 to 1979, and a research optometrist at Gumpelmayer Optik in Vienna, Austria, in 1973.
In preparation for her celebrated career, Dr. Williams completed coursework at Lycoming College between 1966 and 1968. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry at the Salus University of Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1970 and 1972, respectively. She has since been licensed in the District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, state of New York, state of New Jersey, and Commonwealth of Virginia.
In recognition of her exceptional achievements, Dr. Williams has been honored with several accolades throughout the course of her impressive career. She was the recipient of the Clinical Efficiency Award from the Salus Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1972. In addition, she was named a Women’s Auxiliary of Pennsylvania Optometrists Scholar and a Pennsylvania State Grantee from 1968 to 1970 and from 1970 to 1972.
Married to Richard Lee Williams (divorced in 2007), Dr. Williams is the proud mother of one child, Kent Lee. Looking toward the future, she aspires to continue making strides in the optometry profession and influencing the lives of her patients.
