An esteemed figure in the field of dentistry, Amit Acharya, BDS, MS, Ph.D., has accrued approximately 20 years of professional experience in his industry. Serving as a dental informatics scientist with Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation in Marshfield, Wis., since 2009, Dr. Acharya previously practiced as a dentist and dental surgeon in Bangalore, India, between 1998 and 2000. Relocating to the United States to pursue higher education, Dr. Acharya worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, N.J., from 2005 to 2006, and as a visiting scholar at the University of Pittsburgh from 2006 to 2009.

In preparation for his applauded career, Dr. Acharya earned a Doctor of Philosophy in biomedical informatics from the University of Medicine and Dentistry in 2010. Previously, he obtained a master’s degree in computer science from Western Kentucky University in 2004, and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Government Dental College in Bangalore, India, in 1999.

Among the highlights of Dr. Acharya’s career are the integration of public health tools into the dental industry, as well as his research into the electronic dental record information models and dental data element list. A contributor of several articles to professional journals within his field, Dr. Acharya contributed his wealth of knowledge to his community as a reviewer for the Journal of American Dental Education Association in 2008.

Always interested in the fields of medicine and dentistry, Dr. Acharya’s passions include aiding patients in their recoveries and assuring their families that they’re receiving top-of-the-line care. Married to Rohini Hebbar since 2004, Dr. Acharya enjoys cooking, traveling, listening to music, studying history and making wine in his spare time.
