Backed by four decades of professional experience, Thomas E. Gates has served his community not only as an attorney and engineer, but also for two terms on the City Council and as Mayor for the City of Richland, through which he exercised his dedication to helping his fellow people of the state of Washington. As a practicing engineer in the environmental and waste management fields, he was elected a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He served as chair of the state of Washington’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee. Currently, Mr. Gates practices as an attorney via Gates Law PLLC, a firm that offers services in the areas of estate planning, business law and criminal infractions, as well as civil litigation and personal injury. Gates Law PLLC takes pride in providing quality legal services to its clients through the utilization of many years of experience, effective and timely client communication, and honesty. Additionally, he is a pro-tem judge for Federal Way.

Truly committed to his line of work, Mr. Gates actively remains involved in many organizations, including the Washington State Bar Association and King County Bar Association. A philanthropist at heart, Mr. Gates offers volunteer legal services and assists the neighborhood’s legal clinic through the King County Bar Association. He was honored as the KCBA Volunteer Legal Services’ Attorney of the Year. Previously, he served on the boards for numerous nonprofit foundations and organizations, including the Richland Kiwanis Foundation, Kamp Kiwanis Foundation, and the Benton-Franklin Community Action Committee.

After earning a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in civil engineering from Kansas State University, Mr. Gates went on to receive a Juris Doctor from the Seattle University School of Law in 2001. He is now admitted to practice in the state of Washington, as well as before the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. Mr. Gates is also a registered professional engineer in the states of Washington, Kansas and Alaska. Throughout the course of his career, he has received multiple awards and accolades, including the Lifetime Achievement recognition from the America’s Top 100 Attorneys® this year. The National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys included him in its Top 10 Under 40 listing in 2016, and he was recognized by the United States Commerce & Trade Research Institute in 2015 for his excellence in legal services. Furthermore, he is a Marquis Who’s Who Lifetime Achiever and has been listed in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
