John R. Washburn is a wealth management entrepreneur whose expertise in the financial field allowed him to offer premiere insurance services to individuals in Richmond, Va. After working in the finance sector since the 1960s, Mr. Washburn established Washburn & Associates in 1996, a national pharmacy consulting firm that specializes in pharmacy business valuations, managing the mergers and acquisitions of local and regional pharmacies, and working with lenders who understand the dynamics of financing a pharmacy. He successfully operated as the principal agent and owner up until his retirement in 2005.
Mr. Washburn’s expertise in corporate credit management, the legal and corporate aspects of the medical and pharmaceutical industry, and the valuation of medical and pharmacy patient records and prescription files derives from his extensive experience in the financial field, as well as his educational background. He studied at the University of Richmond Extension, Williams College, Stanford University Graduate School of Business and Louisburg College. Before founding his consulting firm, Mr. Washburn held prominent roles with Liberty Loan Corporation, Central Fidelity Banks, Moore’s Building Supplies, Owens & Minor, Inc. and Jago Enterprises. Furthermore, Mr. Washburn has been afforded opportunities outside of his full-time work that has allowed him to extend his impact in his field. Since 1970, he has instructed and lectured on the subjects of financial investments and credit management. Today, Mr. Washburn commits his time to initiatives that he is passionate about. He has been a vessel examiner and officer for the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary since 2007.
Mr. Washburn is the recipient of an Appreciation Certificate for Outstanding Service from the National Association of Credit Management, as well as two National Quality Awards from the National Association of Life Underwriters. He was honorably selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America, Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Washburn maintained memberships with several prominent organizations, such as the International Platform Association, the American Management Association and the American Pharmacists Association. He was also actively involved with the National Association of Credit Management, where he formerly served as president of the central Virginia section, chairman of the legislation committee and director. His affiliations also include the National Wildlife Federation, the Congressional Club, the Hopewell Yacht Club, the Mathews Yacht Club and the Classic Yacht Club of America.
