Dr. Harvey L. Alpern is a cardiologist in Santa Monica, California, who has been in practice well over 45 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Pomona College in 1960, and holds an MD from the University of Southern California (1964). A Los Angeles native, he interned at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital from 1964 to 1965, and completed two residencies at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center: one in internal medicine and another in cardiology. Subsequently, Dr. Alpern had the privilege of serving St. Georges Hospital in London as a cardiology fellow from 1968 to 1969. He has been in private practice since 1970, and in 2006 he established Harvey L. Alpern Consulting, Inc., where he is a specialist in disability medicine.
Dr. Alpern served with the U.S. Air Force Reserve to the rank of captain from 1965 to 1970. His civic contributions include being a member of the Los Angeles-Guangzhou Sister City Association, a group that encourages friendship between the United States and other countries through the establishment of relationships between cities. Additionally, he has held a seat on the boards of directors for the Los Angeles Business Council and the National Health Foundation. Dr. Alpern earned diplomate status with the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Cardiovascular Disease while maintaining membership affiliations with a number of medical groups, notably the American Heart Association, Inc. and the American College of Physicians.
