Nancy L. Cornish is an accomplished music educator whose career with more than 45 years in the field. Ms. Cornish has served Laramie County Community College as an instructor since 2003. She is also the director for the Cranberry Coast Concert Chorale, and is a musician in her own right. She plays the keyboard and performs at Community of Christ Church in Rhode Island and New York, where she also serves as an ordained minister.
Ms. Cornish prepared her music career by obtaining a Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Kansas in 1969. She accepted a teaching position at Leavenworth West Middle School before teaching music at Chanute High School for two years, from 1972 to 1974. Motivated to continue honing her craft, Ms. Cornish returned to the University of Kansas and acquired a Master of Music Education in 1975. At this time, she directed the St. Cecilia Choir in the city of Chanute. Ms. Cornish began teaching in higher education in 1980 when she joined Allen County Community College, followed by a post at Neosho County Community College from 1991 to 2000. She returned to her alma mater, the University of Kansas, in 2001 as a graduate teaching assistant. She has also served as a music director for First United Methodist Church in Kansas, the St. Cecilia Choir in Chanute, Kansas, and St. Mary’s Cathedral Choir in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
As a member of the Music Educators National Conference and former vice president of higher education for the Wyoming Music Educators Association, Ms. Cornish recently served as the secretary of the Historic Governor’s Mansion Foundation. During the early days of her career, she served the Chanute community as president of the Neosho Valley Arts Council. For her success as a musician, Ms. Cornish has been featured in Marquis Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
