Dr. David Talbert is a retired engineer and educator known for his invention of computer modeling applied to the examination of fetuses, placentas and infants. Certified as a chartered physicist through the Institute of Physics, Dr. Talbert is also admired for his studies of physiology, and contributed to studies validating Shaken Baby Syndrome, attributed to a parent or caregiver shaking a child in frustration or fury. The condition is tied to permanent brain damage or even death.
Dr. Talbert is a graduate of the University of London, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in pure mathematics in 1951 and a Bachelor of Science in special physics in 1952. Several years later, Dr. Talbert advanced his education by obtaining a Ph.D. from the same institution.
Dr. Talbert started his career as an electrical engineer for GEC Hirst Research Centre in 1953. He worked for Lucas Industries from 1957 to 1961 and subsequently joined Ultra Electronics Ltd as a senior engineer. He went on to an assignment as chief electronic engineer at Southeast Laboratories before returning to Ultra Electronics as an executive electronics engineer. Dr. Talbert stepped back into the academic world in 1970, accepting a role as a senior lecturer in bio-medical engineering at Imperial College London. Concurrently, he held the position of honorary technical consultant at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital.
Dr. Talbert’s contributions have been recognized throughout the scientific community. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and has been listed in Marquis Who’s Who in the World.
