Representing individuals, families and small businesses for more than 35 years, Lee L. Hale is a distinguished attorney who has served out of his private practice located in Mobile, Alabama, since 1992. Specializing his practice in personal injury, automobile accidents, wrongful death, workmen’s compensation and Social Security, among other areas, Mr. Hale tried his first trial jury in 1974 as an assistant district attorney in Mobile County, a position he held from 1974 to 1979. During his tenure there, he was afforded the opportunity to represent the state on the cross-examination of the defendant’s expert witness on the issue of insanity in the case of Whisenhant v. State, 370 So.2d 1080. Subsequent to this role, he served as deputy attorney general to Attorney General Charles A. Graddick.

In 1979, Mr. Hale aided in the revisions to the legislation of the Alabama Criminal Code, working with the Attorney General and the Alabama Law Institute. He also drafted the first Habitual Offender Act, a part of the bills that created a new criminal code for the State of Alabama. He was appointed to represent the state in the representation of the legislature of Van Hart v. deGraffenried, 388 So.2d 1196, as well as the successful prosecution of three complex security fraud cases.

Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Spring Hill College, attained in 1979, Mr. Hale went on to achieve a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Duke University in 1973. He was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1973 and is also certified to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama and the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Hale is a past vice-chairman of the Mobile Bar Association and is a member of the Alabama State Bar Association. Lending his expertise to academia as well, he was an adjunct professor of law at the University of Alabama, a lecturer at the Alabama Judicial College and a lecturer of continuing legal education for the Alabama State Bar. Civically involved, he was chairman of the Parish Council of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and served on the drug law review committee as a director with the Alabama Law Institute.

Desiring to be a lawyer since the age of 12, Mr. Hale was encouraged to enter the professional workforce by his father. Driven by the motto, “Seek the truth and develop the law,” he is motivated by his clients, who have reassured him of his excellent work and hold a mutual trust. Demonstrating versatility in his field, Mr. Hale also authored “Searches and Seizures in Violation of an Alabama Statute,” published in Alabama Lawyer in 1979.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Mr. Hale was named Alabamians Attorney of the Year by the Legal Services of Alabama Private Attorney Program with Fighting for Equal Justice for Low Income in 2011. To attest to his legacy, he is also listed in Who’s Who in American Law.
