After obtaining a PhD in economics and finance from the University of Oklahoma in 1961, Dr. W. Robert Brazelton began his tenure in education as an instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Holding the role for one year, he moved to Kansas State University, where he was an assistant professor from 1961 to 1963. Spending the majority of his career in Missouri, he was a full professor at the University of Missouri Kansas City from 1963 until attaining emeritus status in 1999.
During his career, Dr. Brazelton notably traveled to such countries as Italy, the Soviet Union, West Europe and the former Yugoslavia to lecture extensively within the fields of economic policies and public affairs. Boasting an innate interest in the economic systems of various countries, he is proudest of his research in post-Keynesian economics and early work in Soviet economics. Additionally, he researched economic policies during the career of Leon H. Keyserling, who helped draft major pieces of the Fair Deal legislation and advised President Harry S. Truman as head of the Council of Economic Advisors.
Post-retirement, Dr. Brazelton has dedicated his time and efforts to numerous publications. Authoring “U.S. Economic Policy: An Analytical Biography of Leon H. Keyserling” in 2001, he also wrote “Alternate Paradigm in Economics” in 1987. For one decade, he served as the editor of the Southwestern Journal of Economic Abstracts and, in 1988, chaired the editorial review board for the Journal of Economics. Furthermore, he wrote a chapter in a Spanish book on economic policy titled “Economica” and has contributed articles to professional journals. Other research in the fields of post Keynesian economics and institutionalism has been published in major economic journals.
A former board of directors member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon fraternity for economics, Dr. Brazelton was ultimately inspired by his college professors, as well as Leon H. Keyserling, who ignited his passion for economic policy and administration during the Truman administration and afterwards. He advises the next generation of professionals to engage in cutting-edge research while keeping up with current affairs.
