Driven by a desire to help people, William James Hoops felt a calling from God to not only teach within the four walls of the church, but also spread his positivity and wisdom across the nation. Enlisting in the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1979 as a chaplain assistant, he served in such states as Colorado, New Mexico and Oklahoma before becoming a chaplain at the Mather, Travis and March Air Force Bases in California. He became an officer until his discharge from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 2005. Beginning in 1991, Mr. Hoops joined the Federal Bureau of Prisons as an institutional minister, where he shared
the word of God with inmates in the prison system. Later on in his career, he also served the Intensive Confinement Center in Lompoc, California, and the Federal Correctional Institute in Allenwood, Pennsylvania. Since 2005, he has been a chaplaincy coordinator and communications coordinator for Disaster Relief for the Southern Baptist Convention in Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.
Mr. Hoops was ordained to ministry by the Southern Baptist Church in 1987 after earning a Master of Divinity from the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (now the Gateway Seminary). He has also held a Bachelor of Arts from Oklahoma Baptist University since 1983. Civically involved as well, he maintained involvement with the Pennsylvania Racing Outreach, the First Southern Baptist Church in Lompoc and the Winfield Baptist Church in Winfield, Pennsylvania. Likewise, he contributed as a producer to the television documentary series “Insights” from 1986 to 1987.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Hoops has accrued several accolades and honors. He was highlighted in over a dozen Who’s Who publications, including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
