Specializing in the education of psychiatric practices and psychology, Dr. Richard B. Ferrell is an eminent figure in his field. Accruing 44 years of excellence in academia, he commenced his career at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, as an assistant professor of psychiatry in 1975. Holding the role for the following six years, he was soon promoted to associate professor of psychiatry, a position he has held since 1981.

Alongside his primary career responsibilities, Dr. Ferrell dedicates his time to civic endeavors. He is a past board member of Opera North in Lebanon, New Hampshire, as well as a former girls’ basketball coach at the Hanover Recreation Department of 27 years. Demonstrating versatility in his profession as well, he is also a prolific author, having contributed a number of articles to esteemed journals within his areas of expertise.

Impressively, Dr. Ferrell is a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and electrical fellow of the American Neuropsychiatric Association, where he also served as an electrical councilor in 2012. Likewise, he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society during his medical studies at Indiana University in 1969.

Happily married to his wife Melanie A. Ferrell for many years, Dr. Ferrell is the proud father of three daughters: Catherine Lynn, Elisabeth Jane Ferrell-Horan and Anne Christine. He also has four grandsons: Antonio, Julian, Peter and Thomas. Born in South Bend, Indiana, in 1943 to parents Rupert Tyler and Beatrice Bradley Ferrell, he enjoys reading, traveling, listening to music and opera singing in his spare time.
