A dmitted to practice law in the states of Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota, Merlyn D. Anderson is an accomplished attorney who has accrued 52 years in the field. Maintaining a solo practice in Slayton, Minnesota, since 1979, he has also served as a city attorney in such Minnesota cities as Avoca, Hadley, Iowa, Lake Wilson and Slayton since
1974. Prior to these endeavors, Mr. Anderson was a county attorney for Murray County, Minnesota, from 1979 to 1995, and a lawyer at the Roy K. Rietz Law Offices from 1973 to 1979 and the Frank Vladyka Law Offices in 1972. Initially intending on delving into the psychology industry, he served as a social worker for the South Dakota Department of Welfare from 1968 to 1969 and a guidance counselor at Freeman Public Schools from 1967 to 1968.
Alongside his primary career responsibilities, Mr. Anderson has served the Town of Lesterville, South Dakota, in numerous capacities, including as a council member, mayor and councilman. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Lesterville Volunteer Fire Department for nearly a decade while also serving the department as secretary for six years. Likewise, he sat on the personnel board of New Dawn, Inc., from 1973 to 1977 and was a bank attorney for the Murray County State Bank for 35 years.
Mr. Anderson served in the military for 20 years, having served on active duty first from 1966 to 1967. A member of the South Dakota Army National Guard Military Band for the following four years, he returned to the U.S. Army Reserve in 1991, remaining with the military until his discharge in 2005. He is immensely proud of his time in the military, as well as the substantial impact he has had on his community as a lawyer.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Anderson was selected for inclusion in the International Register of Profiles and was named to Outstanding Young Men of America. He has also been highlighted in numerous Who’s Who publications. Advising young professionals to build relationships, continue education and establish trust with clients, Mr. Anderson enjoys reading and attending sports events in his leisure time.
