Dr. Paul S. Duffey is a distinguished microbiologist and educator who amassed 44 years of excellence in his chosen fields. Subsequent to receiving a doctorate degree in 1974, he began his tenure as an assistant professor of research at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor for two years before relocating to the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio as an assistant professor of microbiology from 1976 to 1981. At the conclusion of his career, he served as an esteemed research scientist at the California Department of Health Care Services in Berkeley from 1981 until his retirement in 2018.
A certified public health microbiologist in the state of California, Dr. Duffey also served as a longtime member of the Governor’s Task Force on Biotechnology in Sacramento from 1985 to 2018. Inspired to enter his industry by a high school teacher, his interest in biology was ignited upon studying the sciences in college. From there, he began learning about blood diseases, what causes them, how to diagnose them and how to treat them.
A prominent member of several microbiology and science organizations, Dr. Duffey recalls several highlights in his career. He is most proud of the work he performed during his time spent in New York. Living in Michigan at the time, he notably commuted to New York every few weeks, demonstrating his dedication to his field and passion for the industry. He enjoyed the microbiology work he did thoroughly, in both Michigan and New York.
Happily married to the late Dixon Anita Herrick for many years, Dr. Duffey was born in Oakland, California, and currently resides in Moraga, California. In his spare time, he enjoys assembling computers and writing software. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue spending his time in the sciences and further his own knowledge of the field.
