A native of South Africa, Daveen D. Herley is a prolific educator, artist and author who has accrued over 60 years in her profession. Drawing upon several professional degrees in education, she commenced her career as a professor of education and lecturer of art at Grahamstown Training College in South Africa in 1957, holding the roles for three years. Relocating to London, England, she then served as a high school art teacher at the Woodberry Down Comprehensive School from 1961 to 1964 before immigrating to the United States in 1965. Residing in New York, she was an elementary school teacher at South Haven School District from 1972 to 1989 before acting in the same capacity at the South Country Central School District from 1989 to 2002. In addition to these prominent roles, she has served as an adjunct professor in early childhood education at Suffolk County Community College since 1972. Certified in elementary and art education in New York State, Ms. Herley is a workshop leader and two-time presenter at the Bellport Library and Movable Book Society. From 1990 to 1993, she was chair of the educational problems committee of the Bellport Teachers Association. Likewise, she was an attendee
of the Oxford Round Table from 2006 to 2008 and again in 2010, as well as a member of the South Bay Art Association, East End Arts Council and Smithtown Arts Council. A past president of the Student Association for the Education of Young Children (SAEYC) in the mid-1970s, she has also been president of her local golf league.

Ms. Herley is an accomplished artist and her work has been exhibited at various art galleries in Brookhaven, Smithtown, East Hampton, St. James and Bellport, NY, since 1972. In 1975, she also authored her first book, titled “Art Through Your Child’s Eyes.” The recipient of myriad accolades in light of her artistic and teaching abilities, she enjoys gardening, golfing and collecting antiques in her spare time.
