Always interested in biological and psychological sciences as a child, Dr. John T. Braggio had a desire to understand populations overly exposed to environmental hazards. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Coe College in 1969 and a Master of Arts in experimental psychology from Georgia State University in 1973. He began his career as an instructor in the department of psychology at the University of North Carolina Asheville for a year before receiving a Doctor of Philosophy in physiological psychology and comparative psychology from Georgia State University. After this, he returned to the University of North Carolina as an assistant professor from 1975 to 1982. In 1983, Dr. Braggio became a post-doctoral fellow in physiology and biophysics, and spent a year as a senior research assistant in the department of family medicine at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. During this time, he also became an adjunct faculty member in the department of psychology at the University of Central Oklahoma, a research health science specialist, and principal investigator in the behavioral sciences laboratory of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and was promoted to adjunct assistant professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

In the summer of 1992, Dr. Braggio attended the University of Michigan summer session in epidemiology. From 1992 to 2004, he served as an epidemiologist for the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Before completing that appointment, he bolstered his credentials by obtaining a Master of Public Health in epidemiology from The University Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2000. Then, from 2004 to 2015, he moved on to the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a coordinator and epidemiologist, and then as chief of environmental and occupational epidemiology. After this, he served for a year as research scientist III of epidemiology and biostatistics for the California Department of Public Health. Today, Dr. Braggio is president of Mt. Diablo Analytical Solutions and Reporting Institute LLC.

As a dedicated professional, Dr. Braggio has extended his expertise to the field in a myriad of capacities. Throughout his career, he has served as a reviewer of several professional journals and he has chaired several national and international industry conferences. He has also contributed 40 publications to scientific journals, two chapters to books, wrote one geographic information science manual, published 22 scientific conference abstracts, and given more than 80 presentations at scientific conferences. Dr. Braggio considers his opportunities to publish research ideas a highlight of his  accomplished career. In his spare time outside of work, he enjoys jogging, photography, movies, watching PBS, writing, and statistics. Looking toward the future, he plans to write books and complete a variety of high priority research projects.
