Greatly influenced by his mentors Dr. Jack Taylor and Dr. Gerald Gleason, Charles N. Dexter used his career as a business educator to pass his knowledge on to the next generation. In 1983, he obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. While studying for his graduate degree, he served as a station manager for Wien Air Alaska from 1981 to 1985. He was then appointed vice president of Friendship Air Alaska from 1985 to 1989. He then ventured into education, serving as a professor of applied business and accounting at the University of Alaska Fairbanks from 1989 to 2012. During this time, she became a senior human resources professional through the Personnel Accreditation Institute and received a graduate certificate in servant leadership from Gonzaga University. In 2012, Mr. Dexter earned the title of professor emeritus at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Mr. Dexter has also been active in his field in several other positions outside of his primary appointments at the university. He is the director of the Spirit of Alaska Federal Credit Union and he was appointed to the Salaries and Emoluments Commission of the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB). In addition, he has extended his expertise as a weekly business columnist for the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner and has contributed numerous articles to professional journals in the field. For his excellence as an educator, Mr. Dexter was cited by the Alaska House of Representatives in 2002, and most recently, he was presented with the Usibelli Distinguished Service Award by the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In his spare time outside of work, he enjoys playing racquetball, scuba diving, and traveling.
